Bobblehead making is a multi-step craft that combines art and precision. It starts with conceptualization, where the maker works with the client to define the bobblehead’s theme (e.g., celebrity, pet, character), size, and key features. The next step is sculpting a clay prototype, which captures all details—from facial features to clothing textures. This prototype is refined until it meets the client’s approval. A rubber mold is then created from the clay prototype; this mold is reusable for producing multiple white bodies (typically using resin). The resin is poured into the rubber mold, and after curing, the white bodies are removed, sanded, and polished to eliminate any flaws. Painters then apply colors using high-quality, non-toxic paints, often using fine brushes for intricate details like eyes or logos. The critical step of installing the spring between the head and body follows— the spring is selected for its elasticity to ensure the head shakes smoothly without breaking. Finally, each bobblehead is inspected for quality (color, structure, spring performance) and packaged securely. This process requires patience and attention to detail to create a unique, high-quality bobblehead.
